The German Society of Agronomy (GPW) was founded in 1956 and is an association of individuals who are active in the field of plant production sciences or who promote the society's objectives through their involvement. The society's activities include organizing scientific conferences, promoting young scientists, and maintaining relationships with scientific associations with related objectives as well as with practitioners and policymakers. Within the society, there are working groups on agricultural and production ecology, medicinal plants and renewable raw materials, yield physiology and growth models, grassland and forage production, seeds and varieties, sensor-based methods in plant production, experimental methods, the history of plant production science, and the Young Crop Science working group, which is specifically aimed at young scientists. Every two years, the society organizes a multi-day symposium at different locations. The contents of these symposia are published in the series “Mitteilungen der Gesellschaft für Pflanzenbauwissenschaften” (Communications of the German Society of Agronomy). The society has approximately 480 members.
